Ealing businesses urged to sign women’s safety charter

Businesses and organisations across Ealing and its seven towns are being encouraged to sign up to the Mayor of London’s Women’s Night Safety Charter after figures showed just 23 organisations in the borough have joined the scheme.

More than 3,000 organisations across London have now signed the Charter, which aims to improve women’s safety and confidence by encouraging businesses, public services and community organisations to take practical action such as staff training, encouraging reporting of concerns and improving safety awareness.

The Charter is free to join and is open to organisations across London — not just bars, clubs and late-night venues. Businesses are being encouraged to sign up if women work for them, visit their premises, buy from them or rely on their services.

The Charter asks organisations to commit to seven practical pledges, including recording incidents and considering how workplaces and public spaces can be designed with women’s safety in mind.

Kaya Comer-Schwartz, deputy mayor for policing and crime, said: “Women and girls deserve to be safe and feel safe wherever they are and whatever time of day in London.”

A Safer Business Network spokesperson told EALING.NEWS: “The Charter is not just for bars, clubs or late-night venues. If women work for you, visit you, buy from you or rely on your services, then your business has a role to play.

“For Ealing organisations, signing up is a practical way to show leadership, build confidence among staff and customers, and make clear that women’s safety is part of everyday business – not an afterthought.”
