Green light for London’s largest EV charging hub in Ealing

London’s largest ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hub is set to be built in Ealing after Ealing Council approved plans for a major new development near Hanger Lane.

The 36-bay charging hub, close to the North Circular (A406), will be developed through a joint venture between Fastned and Places for London, the property company owned by Transport for London.

Expected to open early next year, the site will allow electric vehicle drivers to add up to 100 miles of range in around five minutes using ultra-rapid chargers powered entirely by renewable energy.

The development will also include a small retail area, toilets, seating and a playground for families and visitors. Fastned’s distinctive yellow canopies will provide shelter for drivers using the charging bays.

The developers said the hub had been designed to meet growing demand from residents, commuters and businesses, including commercial operators based in nearby Park Royal.

Mete Coban, deputy mayor for environment and energy said: “This new, rapid charging hub, the largest in London, will support hundreds of Londoners who have already made the transition to electric vehicles.”

He added that London already had more than 27,900 public charging points, representing more than a third of the UK’s charging network.

Tom Hurst, UK country director at Fastned, said the project would help address the shortage of charging options for drivers without off-street parking.

Construction work linked to the scheme will also include apprenticeships, work experience placements and community outreach programmes aimed at helping local people gain skills in the growing electric vehicle sector.
