All three Labour MPs representing Ealing have backed the government in a Commons vote on whether to investigate Prime Minister Keir Starmer, helping defeat the proposal.
MPs rejected the motion, which was brought forward by Kemi Badenoch, leader of the Conservative Party, by 335 votes to 223 on Tuesday (28 April 2026), blocking a bid to refer the Prime Minister to the Privileges Committee over claims he may have misled Parliament about the vetting process for appointing Peter Mandelson as US ambassador.
Dr Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central & Acton and James Murray, MP for Ealing North, both voted against the motion, in line with the Labour government’s position.
Meanwhile, Deirdre Costigan, MP for Ealing Southall, acted as a teller for the Noes, helping count votes against the motion.
On the opposing side, Gregory Stafford, Conservative MP for Farnham and Bordon and a former Ealing councillor for Hanger Hill and leader of Ealing Conservatives, served as a teller for the Ayes, supporting the call for an inquiry.
The vote followed calls from opposition parties to examine whether proper procedures had been followed in the high-profile diplomatic appointment.
The result means no formal parliamentary inquiry will now take place.
