A tip-off received by a contractor working for Ealing Council led to an investigation which has seen an Uxbridge man ordered to pay £1,833 for fraudulently using a family member’s Blue Badge.
Jason McKenzie, 46, of Kenley Place, Uxbridge, pleaded guilty at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court to displaying a disabled person’s badge when the badge holder was not present.
Hillingdon Council told EALING.NEWS that a contractor working for Ealing Council received information about the misuse and referred the matter to Hillingdon for investigation.
The referral was made on 17 September 2025 following complaints about a Blue Badge being misused by a member of staff at Kearns Estate Agents in Ruislip in a company-branded vehicle.
Hillingdon’s investigation discovered that the badge had been issued to a woman by Rutland County Council and had not been reported lost or stolen.
Counter-fraud officers visited the estate agents on 14 January 2026 and found the vehicle parked on a single yellow line with the Blue Badge displayed.
According to Hillingdon Council, Mr McKenzie identified himself as the driver but refused to hand over the badge for inspection and drove away.
He was fined £595 and ordered to pay a £238 victim surcharge and £1,000 towards Hillingdon Council’s prosecution costs. McKenzie apologised in court and admitted he was not entitled to use the badge.
Addressing residents in the borough, Councillor Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council’s cabinet member for finance, said: “Using a Blue Badge fraudulently and then driving away when challenged about the offence by our counter fraud officers, demonstrated a clear disregard for the rules and other residents who rely on the scheme legitimately to access local businesses and the services they rely on.
“The council will continue to take the toughest action the law allows against those who abuse the system in your borough.”
