Why I’m standing: Mark Sanders, Ealing Liberal Democrats, Hanger Hill

On 7 May 2026, residents in the Hanger Hill ward will vote to choose who represents them at Ealing Council. 

EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing to become a councillor, 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them. 

Here’s what Mark Sanders, standing for Ealing Liberal Democrats in Hanger Hill, has to say: 

Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the ward and why you want to be councillor for Hanger Hill?
Have lived in Ealing for 22 years , have 2 children gone to local schools. Now retired after working for 37 years . Keen to improve the environment for Ealing residents as we witness a decline in public services .

What motivates you?
Working to improve outcomes and standards.

What is your own personal connection to either Hanger Hill or any other part of the borough?
Have campaigned in Hanger Hill for last 6 years with Athena , to answer residents issues .

What do you consider to be your 3 top political, work or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
Having helped Hanger Hill ward go from no Lib Dem councillors to 2 councillors , hopefully 3 after 7th May. Doing a 7 day hike in Jordan aged 50 to raise money for UNICEF. Having helped run a very successful corporate bond fund with 600/- investors at its peak. Improve the scrutiny and engagement of the council.

What do you consider to be the top 3 challenges Hanger Hill faces and how will you as a councillor address them?
Security for residents in their homes and on streets , push for more local police and better enforcement of rules and regulations. Improve engagement for residents would love to see a return of ward forums.

What do you love about Hanger Hill and the borough of Ealing?
Hanger Hill has a lovely cultural mix of residents . Ealing is the number of parks. Involved with Gunnersbury Park.

How accessible will you be to Hanger Hill residents and how can they get in contact with you now and if elected how will you ensure you are accessible to them in the future?
Liberal Democrat’s hold regular monthly surgeries. Attend many resident group meetings and involved with voluntary groups.
