Late heartbreak for Hanwell Town as a last-minute penalty on Thursday (16 April 2026) night denies them the chance to secure survival.
Hanwell took the lead early through Henry Snee and played very well throughout the game. It took until the 98th minute for Farnham to draw level through Darryl Sanders and make the Geordies settle for a point.
Starting the game brilliantly, Hanwell took the lead eight minutes in through Harvery Bradbury. However, the referee penalised the home side for a foul on Farnham goalkeeper Mike Eacott. He had supposedly been fouled and the goal was disallowed.
However, it only took the Geordies five minutes to score again. A brilliant run from Callum Woodcock saw him produce a lovely one-two with Seidou Sanogo, following the pass and firing towards Eacott. The shot was saved but Henry Snee was on hand to volley in the rebound from the middle of the box.
Snee nearly could have scored just three minutes later. A long throw from Eli Oladunjoye caused problems for the Farnham defence. The ball ricocheted around the box before falling to the striker who saw his shot saved low at the near post.
After the early chances for the home side, the game slowed down. The majority of the game being played in the middle of the pitch with minimal chances for both sides.
Farnham were wasteful throughout the first half. They produced some good build up play in the middle of the pitch but were poor in the attacking half.
The first half ended much like the start of the half. The Geordies finished with a flurry of chances through long throws from Oladunjoye and a number of corners. Applying late pressure had no end result for Hanwell as Farnham defended well.
The home side went into the break with a deserved one goal advantage.
The second half started with Eacott nearly scoring a freak own goal. A long throw from Oladunjoye saw the keeper come out to punch it, however he misjudged it and nearly deflected it into his own net, only for the ball to creep over the bar.
From that point on, Farnham piled on the pressure. They made five changes in the 55th minute looking to find an equalizer and they nearly did seven minutes later. A good ball into the box from substitute Bobby-Joe Taylor found Sanders who fired it against the side netting.
However, 20 minutes from the end, Hanwell nearly found a way to double their advantage. Bradbury was brought down in the box by Eacott but the referee waved away the Geordies appeals.
In the end, that turned out to be the home sides last chance of the game. Farnham worked the Hanwell defence and tested them until the end.
A mixture of brilliant defending and way ward shooting saw the away side miss many chances and it was looking to be Hanwell’s day.
In the sixth minute of additional time, the ball fell to Farnham in the Hanwell box. A shot destined for the right corner of the goal saw Jack Matton block the ball off the line. However, a handball was given and he was subsequently sent off and a penalty was given to Farnham.
Sanders stepped up and sent Beasant the wrong way and equalised for the away side.
After 10 minutes of added time, the referee finally blew for full time and the points had to shared.
