Why I’m standing: Khalil Ahmed, Ealing Community Independents, Dormers Wells

On 7 May 2026, residents in the Dormers Wells ward will vote to choose who represents them at Ealing Council.

EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing to become a councillor, 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them.

Here’s what Khalil Ahmed, standing for Ealing Community Independents in Dormers Wells has to say:

Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the ward and why you want to be councillor for Dormers Wells?
I am currently a Head of Department in an inner-city secondary school, with many years of experience in education, including leadership roles as a Headteacher and lecturer. I have lived in Ealing since 1985, and have worked across neighbouring boroughs including Westminster, Hillingdon, Kensington & Chelsea. This has given me a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing urban communities like Dormers Wells.

My priorities for Dormers Wells are improving housing conditions, tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, supporting young people, and ensuring cleaner, safer streets. I want to be a councillor because I care deeply about this community and believe residents deserve a strong voice that listens, responds, and delivers real change.

What motivates you?
I am motivated by a strong sense of fairness and a commitment to improving life chances, particularly for young people and families. Through my work in education, I see every day how the right support can transform lives. That drives me to serve the wider community and ensure everyone has access to opportunity, safety, and a decent quality of life.

What is your own personal connection to Dormers Wells or any other part of the borough?
I have lived in Ealing for over 40 years, and Southall is a community I know well and care deeply about. My family life, work, and community ties are rooted here.

Having worked across West London boroughs, I understand the pressures on local services and the importance of strong, community-focused leadership. Dormers Wells is not just somewhere I want to represent, it’s part of the wider community I belong to.

What do you consider to be your 3 top political, work or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
1 Educational Leadership: As a Head of Department and previously a Headteacher, I have led improvements in teaching, raised student achievement, and supported young people to succeed. This has had a direct impact on their future education and career opportunities.

2. Supporting Progression and Skills Development: As a lecturer, I have helped students develop skills in business and finance, enabling them to progress into higher education and employment.

3. Community Engagement: Throughout my career, I have worked closely with families and communities, supporting young people beyond the classroom. This has helped build trust, strengthen relationships, and address local concerns.

What do you consider to be the top 3 challenges Dormers Wells faces and how will you as a councillor address them?
Housing and Overcrowding: Many families face overcrowded or poor-quality housing. I will push for better housing standards, stronger enforcement, and more affordable housing options.

Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour: Residents deserve to feel safe. I will work with local police, schools, and community groups to address youth crime, anti-social behaviour, and improve community safety.

Cleanliness and Public Environment: Fly-tipping and poor street maintenance are key concerns. I will push for better council services, stronger enforcement, and community-led solutions to improve the local environment.

What do you love about Dormers Wells and the borough of Ealing?
Ealing is one of London’s most diverse and vibrant boroughs, and Dormers Wells reflects that diversity and community spirit. I particularly value the strong sense of family, culture, and local identity in Southall.

There is a real sense of resilience and pride in the area, and I want to help ensure it continues to grow and thrive for future generations.

How accessible will you be to Dormers Wells residents and how can they get in contact with you now and if elected how will you ensure you are accessible to them in the future?
Being accessible is essential. I will be available to residents through email, phone, and social media, and I will hold regular local drop-in sessions so people can raise concerns directly. Right now, you can contact me through info@ealingindependents.org.

If elected, I will ensure consistent communication through newsletters, community meetings, and regular updates. Most importantly, I will listen and act, because residents deserve a councillor who is present, responsive, and accountable.
