A professor at Ealing’s University of West London has helped launch a new parliamentary policy briefing calling for urgent action to reduce inequalities in dementia care.
Professor Emma Wolverson, of UWL’s Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory, co-led the EMPOWER Dementia Network+, which unveiled the report at an event in Parliament earlier this month ( 12 March 2026).
The initiative, developed with King’s College London, sets out five key recommendations aimed at improving support for people living with dementia.
The briefing calls for a national dementia strategy, better support for people living alone, and a shift towards more “relationship-centred” care, among other measures. It was co-produced with more than 170 people across the UK affected by dementia.
The launch, hosted by Dartford MP Jim Dickson, brought together representatives from government, health services and charities.
Professor Wolverson said: “EMPOWER sets out a practical path towards more equitable and compassionate dementia care. Without action, services remain fragmented and people continue to fall through the gaps.”
She added that dementia should be recognised as a wider societal issue, shaped by those with lived experience.
