The RSPCA has appealed for information after a fox was found dead in the Grand Union Canal in Greenford with a noose around his neck.
The animal was discovered floating in the water behind the playground at Greenford Quay at about 2pm on 12 February 2026, after a member of the public alerted the charity. The fox was attached to canal moorings and had suffered a broken neck. No other injuries were identified.
RSPCA animal rescue officer Eve Mannings is leading the investigation.
Officer Mannings said: “This is a truly distressing discovery and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
“The fox had a broken neck, but we are unable to determine at this stage whether he had died before being tied to the canal. This would potentially have been an extremely distressing and terrifying end for this animal, and it is deeply concerning to think what this poor wild animal might have been through.
“This is a public area, directly behind a playground, so there is a possibility that someone may have seen something suspicious on or around 12 February.”
The RSPCA said it is working to obtain any relevant CCTV footage.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018, quoting incident number 01734822.
