Ealing Labour politicians shortlisted for SME4Labour awards

Two Ealing Labour politicians have been named semi-finalists in the 9th SME4Labour Annual Excellence Awards, with voting now open.

Peter Mason, who leads Labour-run Ealing Council, is a semi-finalist for Labour Councillor of the Year while Bassam Mahfouz, the London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon, is also through to the semi-finals for Labour London Assembly Member of the Year.

The awards are organised by SME4Labour, which describes itself as an organisation that builds links between businesses, policymakers and the Labour movement.

They recognise individuals and organisations across politics, business and the labour movement, with categories including MP of the Year, Council of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and Trade Union of the Year, among others.

The organisers said: “The semi-finals showcase outstanding businesses, organisations, and individuals making a real impact across the UK.”

They describe the awards night as “a cornerstone event for SME4Labour”, bringing together business owners, entrepreneurs, trade union representatives and politicians, and highlighting the role SMEs play in economic growth, job creation and local communities.

Ealing Council has been under Labour control since 2010, and the shortlist comes ahead of local elections in the borough on 7 May 2026, when voters will decide who runs the council for the next four years.

Voting for the semi-finalists is now open, with nominations closing on 31 May 2026. Finalists will then be invited to a gala ceremony in London at JW Marriott Grosvenor House on 22 June 2026, where the winners will be announced.
