A depleted Hanwell Town side saw their three match winning run in the Southern League come to an end as the Geordies were well beaten at Wimborne Town on Saturday (14 February 2026).
Chris Moore faced an availability crisis both in defence and attack caused by injuries to centre backs Will Hall and Harry Seabrook, defender Dwayne Duncan’s suspension, while forwards Alfie Pendlebury and Mo Bettamer have left the club. Pendlebury was meant to be in the squad but was a late drop out as his transfer to National League South side Maidenhead United was on the verge of completion.
The Hanwell defence consisted of new faces Josh Odell-Bature and Jack Matton, who joined the Geordies on a month’s loan from Wycombe. Luke Cook led the line after joining on loan from Gosport Borough for the rest of the season alongside Joe Waight.
With Dan Carr having previously left for Poole Town, it left Moore with only two outfielders on the bench in Naheer Nawaf and Harry Rice as well as substitute goalkeeper Trent Carter-Rogers.
Wimborne sensed an opportunity to capitalise on Hanwell’s upheaval and took the lead on five minutes as Josh Carmichael fired a shot from the edge of the area past Sam Beasant.
The Geordies tried to get to grips without their centre backs and forwards and huffed and puffed but the Magpies refused to give them time and space on the ball and it was no surprise when Will Fletcher twisted and turned through the Hanwell defence to fire home under Beasant to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
Hanwell never lacked effort but they were missing that cohesiveness that can only come with playing together as passes went astray and the Geordies were often limited to chances from set pieces, expertly delivered by Joe Wilson from dead ball situation or the cannon that is Elijah Oladunjoye’s long throw.
From one long throw, Cook should have reduced the deficit but, somehow, missed the target when it was easier to score.
Wimborne secured the points with a third goal 22 minutes from time as Samuel Jackson lashed a rocket across Beasant and into the net from 12 yards out.
Games are coming thick and fast for the Geordies as they host big-spending Farnham Town, whose squad includes two former Hanwell favourites in Sam
Evans and Mat Mackenzie, on Tuesday night before Bracknell visit UB6 on Saturday. Tickets for both games can be purchased on www.hanwelltown.com.
