East Acton pupils celebrate success at London Eco Champion Awards

A group of school pupils from East Acton Primary School have been recognised for their work on climate action after coming third in the Mini Warriors category at the London Eco Champion Awards 2025.

The Eco Warriors, made up of Aaliyah, Kairo, Rylie and Mattia, were honoured at a ceremony at King’s Place on Monday (24 November 2025) evening. They received medals on stage along with vouchers for Active Play at the Sobell Centre and an animal encounter at Kentish Town City Farm.

The awards were organised by the London Clean Air Initiative, which said the pupils had shown impressive commitment to climate education and community engagement.

The group were shortlisted for their Cut Your Carbon campaign, which encouraged their school community to reduce energy use and adopt low carbon habits. They designed posters that reminded classmates to switch off lights and devices, created educational displays and led assemblies aimed at helping younger pupils understand climate science. Their efforts extended to families through an after school challenge stall, and they also supported the school’s bottle top recycling programme.

This year’s Mini Warriors category was won by Leo’s Animal Planet, with Seaweed Warriors from Hampden Gurney C of E Primary School taking second place.

Judges included David Mooney, chief executive of the London Wildlife Trust, Bethany Thomas, head of sustainability at Allianz, Sophia Kesteven, partnerships manager at Octopus Energy, and air pollution specialist Dr Gary Fuller of Imperial College London.
