Ealing records 140 cyclists injured in a year

New data from the Metropolitan Police has revealed that 140 cyclists were injured on Ealing’s roads over the past year, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety for people travelling by bike in the borough.

The figures, obtained by Advice.co.uk, show the scale of collisions involving cyclists on the borough’s streets, raising renewed questions about safety for those travelling by bike. The Metropolitan Police categorise injuries as slight, serious, or fatal. In Ealing, officers recorded 29 serious injuries, 111 slight injuries, and no fatalities in the 2024 to 2025 reporting period.

Concerns about cycling conditions in the borough have been raised for several years, with many of Ealing’s busiest routes forcing riders to mix with heavy traffic. Potholes and poorly maintained road surfaces are also frequently cited as contributing factors in collisions.

Road safety advocates argue that these pressures are contributing to incidents that could otherwise be prevented.

Tracy Chick, road traffic accident manager at JF Law, said: “It is extremely troubling that cyclist injury numbers remain so high across the UK. Many of these collisions are caused by avoidable factors such as driver carelessness, poor road quality, and the absence of protected cycling routes.”

Ms Chick added: “These incidents can have life changing consequences for cyclists, from severe physical injuries to long term emotional and financial hardship. Greater awareness and mutual respect on the roads would prevent many of these cases.”
