Ealing has become the first borough in West London to reach 100 employers accredited to pay the London Living Wage.
The London Living Wage is currently set at £13.15 an hour and is calculated each year by the Living Wage Foundation to reflect the real cost of essentials such as housing, food and transport in the capital.
The milestone means more than 15,000 people in Ealing are now employed by accredited organisations, with around 1,000 staff receiving a pay rise since their employer signed up. To celebrate, the council has launched a “Wall of Fame” on its Good for Ealing website, showcasing businesses that have adopted the voluntary rate.
Accredited employers include large firms, small traders, charities and not-for-profit groups. Nationally, 94% report benefits such as better staff morale and retention. Ealing Council is encouraging more local organisations to join by covering first-year accreditation fees and offering business support. Those who sign up before 28 February 2026 will also feature in council promotions and be added to a Living Wage suppliers list.
Council leader Peter Mason said the milestone reflected “a growing commitment to fair pay”, while cabinet member Kamaljit Nagpal described the initiative as “increasingly vital” amid rising living costs.
