Gunnersbury Park and Museum secures funding to expand education and accessibility

Gunnersbury Park and Museum has been awarded £147,000 from Arts Council England to expand its education work, refresh its image and mark a century of public ownership.

The West London estate, jointly owned by Ealing and Hounslow councils, will use the grant from the Museum Renewal Fund 2025–26 to strengthen its schools programme, develop a new fundraising campaign and create a unified visual identity across the park and museum.

One of the main projects will see the museum collaborate with local teachers to create a new Key Stage 3 workshop inspired by the recently installed National Humanitarian Memorial by artist Michael Landy. The programme aims to help pupils explore themes of humanitarianism and public art, building on earlier community projects such as People’s Unite.

Next year marks 100 years since Gunnersbury first came into public use, and the centenary will serve as a rallying point for renewed community engagement. The Trust plans to appoint a professional fundraiser to lead a campaign highlighting Gunnersbury’s heritage and encouraging donations to reduce reliance on commercial income.

Part of the funding will also go towards a rebrand, including new signage and a more inclusive visual identity designed to make the 72-hectare park easier to navigate and more welcoming to diverse audiences.

Corinne Wan, Head of Museum Services, said the support would have a “transformative effect” on the site.  She said: “It will strengthen Gunnersbury Park and Museum’s ability to deliver inspiring education programmes, enhance our fundraising capacity, and improve visual signage across the site.

“These developments will make it easier for all our visitors to explore and enjoy Gunnersbury’s rich heritage and collections.”
