A project to revitalise Ealing’s high streets has been launched with the help of students and a community-led vision for economic renewal.
The initiative, led by Voice For Locals (VFL) and backed by the UK Government, is part of a wider rollout across the UK aimed at boosting local economies through digital tools, grassroots collaboration and support for independent businesses.
VFL founder Jay Thattai said: “It’s our mission to build self-reliant local economies by digitally connecting local job seekers, businesses, consumers & governments.”
Following a pilot in Northern Ireland, the initiative is now looking to expand to councils across England, Scotland and Wales. In Ealing, VFL has partnered with Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges (HRUC), where students have been trained to support small businesses with digital assessments, innovation planning and day-to-day guidance.
Local businesses are already feeling the impact. Zion Styles Beauty Haven in Ealing Broadway said: “The timing of this initiative couldn’t be better.” Adorai Jewellery, also based in Ealing Broadway, added, “Loyalty rewards and cross-promotion could help us stand out.”
Commenting on the project, Ealing Liberal Democrat Councillors Connie Hersch and Jonathan Oxley said: “It’s clear how much thought and effort have gone into this initiative. We’re especially grateful to the HRUC students for their commitment to our high streets. There are some genuinely exciting ideas here, and we fully support the vision for Ealing’s future.”
