Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire in Northolt on Easter Monday (21 April 2025) afternoon after a bonfire spread out of control, destroying several outbuildings and damaging a home.
London Fire Brigade said crews were dispatched to Wood End Gardens shortly after 12pm following 32 emergency calls reporting the blaze. Firefighters from Southall, Wembley and Harrow and stations attended the incident, which was brought under control by 1.10pm. No injuries were reported.
The fire destroyed a range of sheds and outbuildings located to the rear of the property. Half of the roof of a single-storey annex was also damaged.
An investigation by the fire service concluded that the fire was accidental, caused by a bonfire that had been left unattended and subsequently spread.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson urged residents to take extra care when burning waste outdoors. They said: “We would urge people to consider if their bonfire is necessary and to take care if you’re burning waste at home or at work.
“If you’re having a bonfire, never leave it unattended and consider your neighbours. Make sure you build it well away from buildings, garden sheds, fences and hedges, and never use flammable liquids to start it or burn dangerous items such as aerosol cans. Always keep a bucket of water or a hosepipe nearby in case of fire.
“Always check your local authority’s advice on bonfires and follow our safety tips.”
