April 2025 screening and community updates from ActOne cinema in Acton

Acton’s ActOne April 2025 programming is packed with great films and community events.

Bringing in extra fun for the school break, we will show visually striking and equally amusing family-friendly films: see award-winning Flow, record-breaking Ne Zha 2, endearing Away and a Bournemouth University-created inventive short The Lab.

Films showing now: Academy Award winner for Best International Feature Film, I’m Still Here, a tragic story of a Brazilian family torn apart by military rule; War Paint – Women at War, a trailblazing documentary championing the female perspective on conflict through art; La Cocina, a dazzling concoction of heightened emotions and professional rivalries in a busy New York kitchen; The End, an all-star, poignant post-apocalyptic story with a twist to the musical genre; Santosh, a taut and complex thriller about the oppression perpetuated in the name of caste.

From Friday the 4th of April: Flow, the Oscar-winning animal adventure animation of a wondrous journey; Ne Zha 2, a record-breaking animation fantasy adventure of demons, dragons, and dazzling visuals; Mr. Burton, a Richard Burton biopic based on a true story; heartwarming and hilariously relatable comedy Four Mothers; and rural melodrama with a sinister twist, Misericordia.

From Friday the 11th of April: charming animation Away + The Lab from the creative team behind Flow; the 30th-anniversary of a cult comedy, Muriel’s Wedding; an intimate documentary about John Lennon and Yoko Ono, including never-before-seen material, One to One: John & Yoko; a coming-of-age hit of Cannes film festival, Holy Cow; animation wonders Flow and Ne Zha 2 continue for extra school-break fun.

Upcoming films from Friday 18 April, are A Minecraft Movie, The Most Precious of Cargoes, and The Penguin Lessons, all to be confirmed.

Tuesday, 1st of April at 7.15 pm Royal Opera: Turandot, Puccini’s final opera in Andrei Serban’s classic staging is broadcast live for one night only. The last few tickets remain.

The monthly free Board Games Night is on Wednesday, 2nd April, at 6:00 p.m., and all enthusiasts and levels are welcome.

The UK premiere of La Traviata, brought to the screen by OperaGlass Works, was shot on location in the UK. Followed by a live Q&A session with the producers and directors, Selina Cadell and Eliza Thompson – on Sunday, 6 April at 1.00 pm.

One more live Q&A, following the screening of War Paint – Women at War, with the director Margy Kinmonth, on Sunday 6 April at 4:30 pm.

On Wednesday, 9 April at 7.00 pm, attend the monthly short film night, Sound & Vision. Tickets are only £7 for short films of all genres shown on a big screen, followed by meet and greet and networking drinks at the Lounge.

Friday, 11 April at 7.00 pm offers a brilliant Untitled Comedy, founded and moderated by Ryan Denham: ten stand-up comedians, one prize for the audience member. Free entry.

Sunday 13 April at 12:45 pm offers the National Theatre Live adaptation of Stanley Kubrick’s comedy masterpiece, Dr. Strangelove, with seven-time BAFTA Award-winner Steve Coogan in four roles.

Wednesday 16 April at 7:30 pm introduces a brand new Film Quiz, where you can test your film knowledge and win cool prizes. Entry is only £3 and we welcome teams of up to six people.

A special preview before its UK release, see a heartwarming adaptation of Tom Mitchell’s bestselling memoir, The Penguin Lessons – playing on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 April.

On Thursday, 24 April, we host our popular free Open Mic Night. Sign up from 7:30, performances start at 8.00 pm on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be acoustic performances, comedy, poetry, magic, spoken word and more.

Monday 28 April at 6:15 pm we are honoured to show Comrade Tambo’s London Recruits, a thrilling documentary about young Britons recruited by the exiled ANC leader, Oliver Tambo, to undertake missions during South African apartheid. The live Q&A with one of the recruits and a representative of a creative team TBC soon.
