Trailfinders Women have confirmed the re-signing of two of their Scottish internationals, Lisa Thomson and Caity Mattinson, ahead of the 2025/26 Premiership Women’s Rugby season.
Thomson, formerly of GB7s, made a seamless return to 15s in her debut full season, impressing at both fly-half and centre. Her international credentials include the 2021 Rugby World Cup, co-captaining Scotland at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, a gold medal at the 2023 European Games, and selection for Team GB at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also featured prominently in Scotland’s 2025 Six Nations campaign, scoring against the Red Roses.
Domestically, Thomson notched five tries for Trailfinders, including a crucial double in their 39–38 comeback win over Bristol Bears. Her efforts earned her the Coaches’ Player of the Season accolade.
Thomson said: “I’m thrilled to be staying with Trailfinders Women. This team has been a fantastic place for me to develop, and I’m excited to continue contributing to our success on the field.”
Mattinson, who joined from Gloucester-Hartpury in 2024, also extends her stay after becoming a lynchpin at scrum-half. A seasoned international since her 2022 debut, she has featured in successive Rugby World Cups and Six Nations campaigns.
Mattinson said of her re-signing: “I’m excited to stay with Trailfinders Women and continue to contribute to such a talented team.”
Head Coach Barney Maddison praised both players: “Lisa’s leadership, experience, and ability to perform in critical moments have been invaluable this season. We’re excited to have her back and look forward to seeing her continue to grow as a player and leader next season.”
On Mattinson, he added: “Caity’s quick thinking and precision as a scrum-half have been vital to our game plan. Her ability to perform under pressure has been impressive, and we’re thrilled to have her back for another season.”
