A team of schoolgirls from Ealing Fields High School have stormed their way to the top after winning the Jets NFL Girls Flag league – and they didn’t even let their rivals score a single point.
The Ealing Fields squad smashed Twickenham’s Turing House School 28-0 to be crowned champions during the hotly contested Championship Day at Chiswick RFC.
Now in its third year, the New York Jets-run league gives girls aged 12-15 the chance to try their hand at flag football – a non-contact, fast-paced version of American Football. This year saw 280 girls from 28 schools across the capital take part, including six new schools joining the action.
After five weeks of league matches, the top 12 schools went head-to-head in a day of fierce competition, with ten London boroughs represented.
Individual players from the league were also recognised for their skills with Robyn from Acton’s Twyford School scooping defensive MVP and Valeria from Ealing Fields earning offensive MVP.
Jesse Linder, Jets vice president of community relations, said: “I think it’s safe to say year three of our Jets NFL Girls Flag league in London has been the best yet. A huge congratulations to Ealing Fields on their victory.”
