Community strength shines at Ealing Summer Open

Perivale Athletics Track was alive with strength, determination and community spirit last Saturday (2 August 2025), as 31 weightlifters from six clubs gathered for a full day of Olympic lifting, organised by Ealing Weightlifting Club.

Among the guests was Ealing North MP James Murray, who presented medals to youth lifters and praised the achievements of the participants.

Kazem Panjavi, club manager and head coach of Ealing Weightlifting Club, said: “His support reminds us that grassroots sport plays an essential role in building a healthier and stronger community.”

The event also welcomed weightlifting stalwarts Cheema Singh, the former national head coach, and Karzan Servan, a Manchester-based coach with long-standing ties to the club.

PMr anjavi added: “This event was more than a competition — it was a celebration of community, youth development, and the unstoppable momentum of grassroots weightlifting. Thank you to all who lifted, coached, volunteered, watched and cheered.

“We’re proud to say: Ealing is getting stronger — one lift at a time.”

The competition was split across four groups and showcased lifters of all ages and abilities.
