Further education colleges across England are set to benefit from new government funding to upgrade ageing buildings, with Ealing Green College and Southall Community College among those receiving a share.
West London College, which operates across sites in Ealing, Southall and Hammersmith, has been allocated £1,214,018.63 as part of a £307 million national programme to repair and maintain college estates.
The funding, announced by the Department for Education, is aimed at tackling long-standing maintenance issues such as leaking roofs, broken windows and outdated heating systems that have affected learning environments.
Skills minister Jacqui Smith said the investment would help improve both facilities and outcomes for students: “The young people in these colleges are the engineers, bricklayers and designers of the future, and they and the dedicated staff teaching them deserve the best possible environment to learn and succeed.
“This £307 million investment will repair and modernise facilities across all 175 colleges in England, giving young people the spaces they need to build the skills they need for good careers, helping to drive economic growth.”
Ministers said the programme forms part of a wider £1.7 billion plan to modernise further education buildings by 2030, alongside efforts to expand training opportunities.
