West Ealing Subway hygiene rating drops to one

A branch of sandwich chain Subway in West Ealing has seen its food hygiene rating drop to one following a recent inspection by the Food Standards Agency.

The branch, on The Broadway, was rated “major improvement necessary” after inspectors visited on 16 February 2026. The score marks a decline from its previous rating of three – “generally satisfactory” in May 2024.

Food hygiene ratings range from zero, meaning urgent improvement is required, to five, indicating very good standards.

According to the inspection report, food handling standards were judged to be “good”, while cleanliness and condition were rated “generally satisfactory”. However, inspectors raised concerns about the management of food safety, which was assessed as requiring major improvement.

A rating of one indicates a business is falling short of expected standards and must make significant changes. Issues at this level often relate to weaknesses in food safety systems, such as poor record keeping, insufficient staff training, or procedures not being consistently followed.
