Six candidates to fight North Acton ward council by-election

Six candidates have been officially confirmed as standing in the North Acton ward by-election next month after nominations closed at 4pm on Friday (29 May 2026).

Voters will return to the polls on 25 June 2026 to elect a new councillor to Ealing Council following the resignation of Green Party councillor Simon Anthony, who stepped down shortly after being elected earlier this month (7 May 2026) citing health reasons.

The candidates standing for the North Acton ward seat on Ealing Council are Gareth Shaw for Labour, Abdi Ahmed for the Liberal Democrats, Sally Gorman for the Conservatives, Marijn van de Geer for the Green Party, Jonathan Notley for Reform UK and Craig Smith for Ealing Community Independents.

Mr Anthony previously secured 1,298 votes for the Green Party in the closely fought North Acton contest, finishing second behind Labour councillor Blerina Hashani, who topped the poll with 1,356 votes. Labour councillor Hodan Mohamoud Haili retained the ward’s third seat with 1,296 votes.

North Acton was one of the most competitive wards at the local elections on 7 May, with 17 candidates standing for the ward’s three council seats.

In next month’s by-election Marijn van de Geer for the Green Party will seek to defend the seat won by Mr Anthony at the May elections.

The by-election will also see former councillor and Ealing Labour chief whip Gareth Shaw attempt to return to Ealing Council after losing in South Acton ward at the May elections.

Polling stations for the North Acton ward by-election will be at:

  • Temporary Polling Place, Wesley Playing Fields, North Acton Road, NW10 6PF
  • The Collective Old Oak
  • Westcott Park Community Centre
  • St Gabriel’s Church Hall
  • St Vincent’s Primary School
  • West Acton Community Centre

Electors’ designated polling stations will be shown on their poll cards.

Electors with an existing postal vote arrangement will receive their postal ballot packs during the week beginning 8 June 2026.

Residents who are not yet registered to vote have until midnight on 9 June 2026 to register, while the deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 10 June 2026.
