NatWest warns Ealing residents over driving test scams

Driving lesson and driving test scams were the most commonly reported type of scam affecting Ealing residents over the last year.

NatWest bank’s analysis of scam trends between April 2025 and April 2026 found driving lesson and driving test scams topped the list in Ealing. The figures also show they were the most commonly reported among under-35s in the borough, while concert ticket scams topped the list for people aged 35 to 65.

Neighbouring Brent and Harrow also recorded driving lesson and driving test scams as their most commonly reported, while concert ticket scams topped the list in neighbouring Hillingdon and Hounslow.

Across London, investment and cryptocurrency scams accounted for almost half (48%) of all money lost. However, purchase scams – including fake driving lessons, concert tickets and online shopping – made up 69% of reported cases. The latest UK Finance Fraud Report also found the value of purchase scams increased by 20% nationally over the past year.

Catherine van Weenan, London and South East regional board chair at NatWest, said: “Scams aren’t just becoming more sophisticated, they’re becoming more localised. From fake concert tickets to fraudulent driving lessons, criminals are targeting the things people are doing every day across London.

“Whether it’s sticking to trusted sellers, avoiding bank transfers when something doesn’t feel right, or simply taking a moment to pause before making a payment, these small actions can make a huge difference.”

NatWest is running Financial Foundations workshops across London this summer to help people recognise common scam tactics, spot warning signs and protect themselves from fraud.
