The number of people employed in Ealing has dropped over the past year, according to new analysis of official labour market data.
Figures for December 2025 show there were 181,325 people employed in the borough, down 2,195 compared with the same month a year earlier, a fall of 1.2%. In the most recent month alone, employee numbers declined by 521, a month-on-month drop of 0.3%, suggesting continued pressure on local jobs.
The longer-term picture shows a sharp rise followed by a slowdown. Employment in Ealing stood at 176,690 in December 2022 before increasing to 182,992 by December 2023, a gain of more than 6,300. More recent losses have eroded part of that growth, leaving employee numbers below their 2023 peak.
The analysis, carried out by the employment and pay app WageSight using Office for National Statistics payroll data, ranks Ealing 10th out of 19 London towns and cities for employment change, placing it among the weaker performers in the capital.
Paul Hebden, WageSight director, said: “The latest figures underline the continued pressure on employment in Ealing. Payroll remains down compared with last year, and recent month-on-month data suggests employers are still cutting back.”
Speaking to EALING.NEWS, an Ealing Council spokesperson said: “We are focusing our efforts on creating good jobs and opportunities within the borough and have helped thousands of residents get employment and skills which are setting them up for life. We will continue to build on this progress and make sure our residents can benefit from a fairer, more inclusive economy.”
