The Liberal Democrat leader, Sir Ed Davey, visited Ealing on Saturday (28 February 2026) to support the party’s candidates campaigning in Walpole ward ahead of May’s local elections.
Sir Ed joined local Ealing Liberal Democrat activists, speaking to residents in the ward about local and national issues. The party said conversations included views about national politics and local services provided by Labour-run Ealing council, with residents raising issues such as street cleanliness, crime, housing repairs and proposals affecting children’s centres.
He also highlighted the Liberal Democrats’ role as the official opposition on the council, pointing to what the party said was its success in reversing a decision to dim streetlights and its campaigning on environmental issues.
Sir Ed Davey said: “Many residents I spoke to are fed up with both Labour and the Conservatives.
“As Official Opposition, Liberal Democrats are providing the alternative that residents need. I am here to back the local champions Matt Mellor, William Francis and Ksenia Maximova who will work hard to gain your trust this May.”
Councillor Gary Malcolm, leader of Ealing Liberal Democrats, said: “Ed Davey’s support shows that Liberal Democrats are increasingly confident that they will make gains from both Labour and the Conservatives at this May’s local election.
“Only the Liberal Democrats have a positive plan to clean up Ealing, make Ealing safe, and stand up for local people and business.”
