Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters tackled a blaze that gutted parts of two terraced houses on Allenby Road in Southall on Thursday (5 February 2026) night.
The London Fire Brigade said the first floor and roof of both properties were completely destroyed. Seven adults and six children evacuated the premises before crews arrived and no injuries were reported.
Sub Officer Andy Thornton, who attended the incident, said: “This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home. In this case, the smoke alarms sounded and the residents were able to get out with no injuries reported.”
He added: “Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start except kitchens or bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate.”
Control officers received the first of 17 emergency calls at 8.55pm. Crews from Ealing, Wembley, Harrow and Southall fire stations were sent, and the fire was brought under control by 11.13pm.
The cause is under investigation.
