Eight fire engines and about 60 firefighters have tackled a large grass fire near Arnold Road in Northolt this afternoon (12 August 2025).
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said around three hectares of grass, trees and shrubland were alight. Crews from Northolt, Ruislip, Hayes and nearby stations were sent after control officers received the first of eight emergency calls at 1.35pm.
Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it spreading. It was under control by 4pm. Grass fires can move quickly in dry weather, with even light winds fanning the flames.
A specialist wildfire response vehicle was deployed to the scene. Built for off-road use, it allows crews to carry additional kit directly to fires on open land. Each unit has a 475-litre water tank and can pump water while in motion, helping firefighters to tackle grass fires faster and more safely.
