Oxfam’s bookshop in Ealing will reopen on Thursday (9 October 2025) after a major overhaul, with the charity hoping a bold new look will help attract fresh customers, volunteers and donations.
The store, on The Green in Ealing Broadway, is one of the first in the country to receive a new interior design that Oxfam is rolling out nationally. The refit features brightly coloured walls, campaign messaging and UK-made fittings. Oxfam says books will be on shelves made from oriented strand board (OSB) – a material more usually found in shipping crates – intended to symbolise the transport of aid to communities in crisis.
The redesign is part of an attempt to modernise Oxfam’s network of shops which helps to generate millions each year for the organisation’s humanitarian and development work, while also acting as hubs for local campaigning.
Matthew Burgess-Evans, Oxfam’s head of store development, said the changes were intended to move beyond a simple refurbishment. He said: “It’s about creating spaces that reflect Oxfam’s campaigning spirit as well as being enjoyable places to browse.”
