Volunteers who spend their time helping Ealing residents mend clothes instead of throwing them away have been recognised with one of the UK’s highest honours for community groups.
Ealing Repair Cafe has received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, which recognises the contribution made by volunteer organisations across the country.
The award was presented by Richard Kornicki, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London, at a ceremony marking the achievement.
Since launching, the group has built a following among residents looking to repair worn or damaged clothing, with volunteer repairers helping to give garments a second life rather than see them end up in the bin.
Ealing Repair Cafe was one of 231 organisations across the UK to receive the award this year.
Mary Horesh, founder of Ealing Repair Cafe, said: “This award belongs to all our volunteers, repairers, organisers and supporters who help Ealing Repair Café reduce waste, share skills and bring people together. Thank you for being part of our journey.”
