A ward at Ealing Hospital has become the first in the London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) to achieve gold standard accreditation, recognising its exceptional commitment to patient care and safety.
Six North, which is for senior citizens, marked the occasion with a singalong after being presented with the award by Chief Nurse Lisa Knight.
She said: “The team got an extraordinary set of scores as part of the evaluation process. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
The award comes as part of a four-tier programme introduced in 2023 by LNWH. Wards are rated white, bronze, silver or gold based on unannounced inspections covering patient experience, safeguarding, medication safety, sepsis care and falls prevention. Assessments are conducted by a multidisciplinary team including clinicians, non-executive directors, volunteers and external partners, with both patients and staff questioned.
Julie Labial, clinical nurse manager for Six North, accepted the award, saying: “We were rated silver when the accreditation process began in 2023 and have worked extremely hard to raise standards since then reflecting the trust’s Heart Values of Honesty, Equity, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork.”
She added: “Six North stands as a distinguished example of resilience amid challenges and change.”
