An Ealing mental health project helping children and young people from underrepresented communities access support has been shortlisted for a national healthcare award after referrals increased by 30%.
The Link Worker project, developed by Ealing’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), works with faith groups, schools, voluntary organisations and community leaders to reach families who may otherwise face barriers to accessing mental health support.
West London NHS Trust said referrals from communities targeted by the project have increased by an average of 30%, with around 200 additional children each month now accessing support.
The initiative has been shortlisted for the Early Intervention and Prevention for Children, Young People and Families category at the 2026 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards.
West London NHS Trust has been shortlisted in three categories overall, including Trust of the Year.
It has also been shortlisted alongside partners for Mental Health Innovation of the Year for its work with the London Major Trauma Psychology Network, which provides mental health support to children and adults recovering from major trauma.
West London NHS Trust chief executive Maria O’Brien said: “I’m particularly proud that this national recognition highlights our work to improve access to community and mental health support, reduce health inequalities and develop new approaches that are already making a real difference for local people.”
The winners of the 2026 HSJ Awards will be announced later this year.
