Ealing Broadway shopping centre Post Office hit by TG Jones closure

TG Jones is to close its branch inside Ealing Broadway shopping centre, with the Post Office confirming that its branch within the store will also shut on 4 January 2027.

In a statement, the Post Office described the closure as “unplanned” and said it is “working hard to find a solution” to continue offering services to the “local community in Ealing”. It is also in the early stages of reviewing applications to run a branch. No replacement location has yet been announced.

The closure follows restructuring at TG Jones, owned by private equity firm Modella Capital, which acquired WHSmith’s UK high street business for £76 million in June 2025.

It comes less than two weeks after TG Jones closed its store at Westway Cross in Greenford on 26 September 2026. Under the restructuring plan, as many as 150 of TG Jones’ approximately 450 stores could close.

The closure will leave Ealing Broadway town centre without a Post Office, prompting concern about where customers who rely on its services will go if a replacement is not secured locally.

Bassam Mahfouz, London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon, said: “The Post Office at Ealing Broadway provides essential services for tens of thousands local residents. Closing it shouldn’t be an option.

“The Ealing Broadway branch is at the centre of our borough, and after closures in Southall and Acton, it remains the main option for most residents. They shouldn’t be expected to travel further to access something so important to everyday life.

“I’ve reached out to the Post Office to make sure that whilst the host store may be closing, this isn’t the end of this vital facility that sits in the heart of our borough.

“With the government finally giving town centres the focus they deserve, it’s important that residents can continue to access the local services that they rely on.”

The Post Office announced the January closure in a letter headed “Branch Unplanned Closure”.

Post Office corporate account lead Kieran Gibson-Ogunmokun said: “As you may already be aware following the restructuring plan announcement by our retail partner TG Jones, some of their stores will close.

“Regrettably, Ealing Post Office branch is affected by this restructuring and is due to close on Monday 4 January 2027.”

On efforts to maintain a service locally, he added: “The provision of a Post Office service to our customers in the area is important to us, and we are working hard to find a solution to continue offering Post Office services to the local community in Ealing.

“We are currently in the early stages of reviewing applications to run the Post Office branch and we will provide a further update on our plans as soon as possible.”

The Post Office said any future service would need to be sustainable both for the person operating it and for Post Office Limited.

The Post Office is directing customers to two alternative branches in West Ealing. It lists West Ealing Post Office at 187 Uxbridge Road, around 0.9 miles from the Ealing Broadway branch, and Leeland Road Post Office at 49 Broadway, around 1.1 miles away.

Other Post Office branches include Ealing Common, Pitshanger Lane, Boston Parade and Hanwell Broadway.

Post Office guidance on unplanned closures says that when an operator can no longer run a branch, it seeks to identify a new postmaster in the local area. If a move to new premises is proposed, a six-week local public consultation would take place before a final decision on the new location.
