Decade long campaign secures new road crossing in Acton

A long-awaited pedestrian crossing is finally coming to Southfield Road in Acton, after more than a decade of pressure from residents and local Liberal Democrats.

The decision was confirmed in a report presented at an Ealing Council cabinet meeting on Wednesday (16 April 2025), where Labour-run Ealing Council included the road among several in the borough set to receive pedestrian safety upgrades and other improvements.

Campaigners have long raised concerns to Ealing Council over speeding and safety on Southfield Road and highlighted their concerns. Over the years this has included community speed checks with local police and lobbying the council.

Southfield Councillor and leader of Ealing Liberal Democrats, Gary Malcolm said: “There are lots of children who cross Southfield Road to get to the Southfield Rec and then to their school, the Ark Byron Primary Academy. Liberal Democrats hope the council can consult residents and install it as soon as possible to reduce the number of road safety injuries in the future.”
