Cherry blossom trees have been planted at Haven Green in Ealing Broadway in a ceremony marking cultural links between the borough and Japan.
Ealing Broadway ward Councillor Seema Kumar joined Masami, representing the Miyabi Community, to plant one of the Sakura trees in the presence of members of the local Japanese community.
The trees were gifted as part of the Sakura Cherry Tree Project, an initiative that promotes the cultural significance of cherry blossoms and encourages international friendship through planting schemes in public spaces.
In Japan, Sakura trees are associated with themes of renewal, beauty and the passing of time. Organisers said the planting in Ealing was intended as a gesture recognising the Japanese community locally and across London.
As the trees mature and blossom each spring, they are expected to become a focal point for residents and visitors.
Miyabi Community, which helped coordinate the project, said it aims to strengthen cultural ties and promote greater understanding between Japanese and British communities.
