Ealing Foodbank has received a £2,500 donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to support its work with residents in the borough facing financial hardship.
The charity, part of the Trussell Trust’s national network, provides three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food to people in crisis. It also offers signposting to specialist debt, benefits and housing advice aimed at tackling the underlying causes of hardship.
The funding follows a nomination by staff working at the society’s Ealing branch.
Amira Hassan, a customer consultant at the branch, said: “We see first-hand how many people in our community rely on Ealing Foodbank, and we regularly collect food donations in branch. We wanted to go further in supporting a charity that makes such an important difference locally.
“We’re proud that Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has been able to award this donation to help Ealing Foodbank continue its vital work in west London.”
A spokesperson for Ealing Foodbank said: “So many Ealing residents are struggling and this donation will go straight to help people in crisis by providing both food and also paying for advice that will help people out of hardship.”
The foundation is funded through the society’s Small Change Big Difference scheme, which allows members to donate the pennies from annual interest payments. Since 1999 it has given more than £10m to charities across the UK.
