Residents and staff at a care home in Acton have donated more than 15 packages of warm clothing to support people experiencing homelessness in the area.
Torkington House, a residential and dementia care home on Creswick Road run by the non-profit Greensleeves Care, collected items including socks, jumpers and woolly hats as part of its annual Warmth of Care winter campaign. Contributions were made by residents’ relatives, visitors, volunteers and staff.
The donations were received on behalf of St Mary’s Church, Acton, by the Reverend Sarah Miller, who supports the church’s work with local people without permanent accommodation.
The care home said the donation marked the third consecutive year it has supported a local charity through the campaign, which encourages care homes and their communities to spread “kindness, comfort and connection” each winter.
Margaret Siriwardena, the home manager, said: “As a long-standing care home in Acton, we believe it’s incredibly important to support our local community.”
Reverend Miller said: “We’re very, very grateful for all the fantastic donations,” adding they would support a night shelter at St Mary’s running for six Sundays from 22 February 2026, offering guests “a warm place to sleep, a hot meal and breakfast.”
