Match Report: Erith Town 1 v Hanwell Town 1 (Erith win 3-2 on penalties)

Hanwell Town relinquished their London Senior Cup crown on Tuesday (10 February 2026) evening, as they lost on penalties against Erith Town in their third-round tie.

Erith entered the next round thanks to their late AJ Dythe equaliser and some heroics from keeper, Charlie Wealands, in the resulting penalty shoot-out. But in full control for much of the game, Hanwell will rue their wayward shooting – creating no fewer than seven good opportunities but blazing all over the bar.

Harry Hoath came closest to breaking the deadlock when he hit the Erith goalpost in the 18th minute. But it was Joe Waight who opened the scoring for the Geordies on the hour mark, finding the target from close range after one of Eli Oladunjoye’s trademark long throw-ins.

Hoath and Joe Wilson then had further chances for Hanwell to extend their lead but failed to convert.

In the 84th minute, Erith skipper, Dythe, made the Geordies pay for their profligacy and stroked the ball home from close range.

Penalties followed straight after and despite Hanwell keeper, Sam Beasant, pulling off a brilliant stop to save Erith’s second penalty; it was Wealand in the Erith net who was the ultimate hero. The Dockers keeper superbly saved Alfie Pendlebury and Ernaldo Krasniqi’s efforts meaning when Harry Rice saw his penalty strike the crossbar, it’s Erith who progress to a next round match against Leyton Orient.

Speaking after the match, Hanwell manager, Chris Moore, said he thought his side played some “really good stuff” but credited Erith for “battling away”.

Having suffered two cup defeats in succession, Hanwell’s attention now switches back to the league as they travel to Wimborne Town on Saturday afternoon, before returning to the Oliver Connell and Son Community Stadium to play Farnham Town on Tuesday 17 February 2026 (tickets can be found here).
