A consultant physician at Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal has been recognised by his peers for his work examining doctors taking specialist medical qualifications.
Professor Abdul-Majeed Salmasi has spent the past 10 years examining candidates for the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP), a postgraduate qualification for doctors entering specialist training.
He estimates he has examined several thousand candidates during that time, with several hundred taking the practical examination at the London North West University Healthcare Trust’s Central Middlesex Hospital each year.
Professor Salmasi said he still remembers the pressure of taking the exams himself. He said: “I can still remember taking my own exams. I try not to be too scary as an examiner given how nervous I was facing a similar ordeal when I was younger.”
The practical MRCP examination is also held at centres around the world, including Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Pakistan.
