West London College goes from ‘Requires improvement’ to ‘Good’

West London College has regained a ‘Good’ overall rating from Ofsted following an inspection last month (May 2025) – just two years after being told it ‘Requires Improvement’ in a report that raised serious concerns about the quality of education and staffing levels.

The latest report, published this week, commends the college for making a “strong contribution” to meeting local skills needs, highlighting its strategic work with the Greater London Authority and local businesses, including the launch of the West London Retail Skills Hub at Westfield London. Ofsted praised the college’s “comprehensive understanding of skills shortages” and its effective response to them.

The turnaround marks a significant shift since January 2023, when Ofsted downgraded the college – whose campuses are in Ealing, Hammersmith and Southall – citing lesson cancellations due to tutor shortages, insufficiently challenging teaching and poor learner outcomes in key areas including ESOL and access to higher education courses.

At the time, Ofsted highlighted that students felt safe and supported, but called for urgent improvements in the quality of education, availability of tutors, and student feedback mechanisms.

While, West London College scored ‘Good’ across seven categories including The quality of education, personal development and leadership and management, Ofsted inspectors rated behaviour and attitudes as ‘Requires Improvement’.

Inspectors also noted that learners benefit from rich work experience and strong industry partnerships, giving them “a good understanding of the job roles they can access.” The curriculum was described as inclusive and accessible, particularly for students with special educational needs and disabilities. Learners and apprentices were found to “greatly value the new knowledge, skills and behaviours that they develop throughout their courses.”

Karen Redhead OBE, principal and CEO, said: “We are delighted that Ofsted have recognised the work we do to support our learners, employers and communities. The result is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, governors and stakeholders and we will work tirelessly to build on this success because our students deserve nothing less.”
