UWL performers and composers showcase work in Ealing

Final-year students at Ealing’s University of West London (UWL) have been showcasing their work as part of a series of ARTSFEST performances and festivals held at the London College of Music’s Lawrence Hall.

The events have featured original music, theatre productions and student-led performances created by graduating students preparing to enter the music and performing arts industries.

One of the highlights was the LCM Composition Festival, where student composers presented new music across two showcase events in April and May. The festival also featured workshops and performances from industry guests, including composer and sound designer Danilo Ricciardiello, flautist Mary Bull and video game composer Richard Jacques.

Dr Simone Spagnolo, Head of Composition at LCM, said: “We had a wonderful Festival this term, enriched by new music and inspiring industry guests.

“It has been a pleasure to experience our students’ work across a wide range of genres and media.”

Final-year Contemporary Theatre and Performance students also staged The Superhero, a futuristic play set in an ice-covered London, written and directed by playwright Sophie Swithinbank.

Cathy Sloan, Course Leader for Contemporary Theatre and Performance, said the production marked “a culmination of three years of training in contemporary performance practices”.

ARTSFEST will conclude this week with LCM FEST 2026, featuring original scripts, cabaret performances, choreography and student-made films created as part of final-year dissertation projects.
