Featherstone Primary wins national award for developing pupils’ speaking skills

Featherstone Primary & Nursery School in Southall has become one of just 67 schools across the UK to receive a national award recognising its work in developing pupils’ speaking and communication skills.

The school has been awarded Voice 21 Oracy Centre of Excellence status, chosen from more than 1,200 schools that work with the education charity.

According to Voice 21, the award recognises schools that place a strong emphasis on helping pupils develop confidence in speaking, listening and presenting their ideas.

Featherstone headteacher Des Lee said: “Every child deserves to have a voice and the confidence to use it. We’re incredibly proud that our pupils have been recognised nationally for developing skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.”

The recognition follows Featherstone’s Outstanding Ofsted inspection in 2024 and an IQM Centre of Excellence award last year.
