With just over a week to go, Ealing residents still have time to nominate a local councillor for the annual Cllr Awards, which honour their service to the local community.
Across Ealing and its seven towns, there are 70 elected councillors – from Ealing Labour, Ealing Liberal Democrats and Ealing Conservatives – representing residents in 24 Ealing Council local wards.
Entries for the 2025 Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) and CCLA Cllr Awards close at midnight on 11 June 2025, with the shortlist announced in the autumn. The winners will be revealed at a special ceremony taking place at London’s Guildhall on 18 November 2025.
The Cllr Awards feature five categories: Community Champion, Leader of the Year, Young Councillor of the Year, Innovator of the Year and Lifetime Legend. Residents can submit a nomination for their local ward councillor by clicking here.
In its 16-year history, the Cllr Awards have recognised only one Ealing councillor. Former Southall Broadway ward councillor Zahida Abbas Noori was ‘Highly Commended’ in the Community Champion of the Year category at the 2012 awards.
As well as residents, councillors and council officers can also submit nominations for the awards.
Jonathan Carr-West, chief executive of LGIU, said: “Councillors play a crucial role in the wellbeing of our communities – from improving public spaces to championing local initiatives – and their efforts touch our everyday lives in countless ways.”
Mr Carr-West added: “Though much of their work happens quietly behind the scenes and without fanfare, their contributions are vital. That’s why the Cllr Awards are so important – they shine a spotlight on the dedication and impact of those who often go unrecognised and we’re excited and humbled to see the inspiring nominations that are already coming in.”
