Southall teen admits terrorist material offences

A 19-year-old teen from Southall has admitted possessing terrorist material including bomb-making guides, after an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing London.

Dihan Rahman pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to three charges of possessing documents likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The court heard Rahman was first arrested on 15 March 2024 after detectives seized his digital devices, including a mobile phone and computer. Police said an encrypted drive was forensically analysed and officers found two videos containing instructions on how to build bombs. A further terrorist document was also recovered from a USB stick.

The investigation began after Rahman was accused of stalking and threatening two girls at his school. Police said he had attempted to date one of the girls and began targeting her after she turned him down.

Rahman was later released on bail with conditions not to contact the two girls, but officers said he continued to try to contact them on social media. In May 2024, he posted images of the school prom venue and a photograph of a German Nazi soldier holding a gun.

Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Flanagan said: “This case is yet another example of a growing and concerning trend of young people being drawn into extremist, violent and terrorist ideologies.”

Rahman also pleaded guilty to three counts of stalking and three counts of possessing indecent images. He is due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on 6 May.
