The Metropolitan Police’s deputy commissioner has visited Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Southall to reassure the community following the fatal stabbing of Kirandeep Kaur in Hayes last month.
Matt Jukes visited last Friday (31 July 2026), where he met community leaders alongside local officers to offer condolences to Ms Kaur’s family, listen to concerns and reinforce the Met’s commitment to protecting London’s Sikh communities.
The visit follows the death of 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur, who was fatally stabbed at a property on Uxbridge Road, Hayes, on 12 July 2026. A man in his 20s was also found outside the address with stab injuries that police said were not believed to be life-threatening.
Daniel Sean James, 44, of Mercer Place, Pinner, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. Criminal proceedings are ongoing.
During the visit, Mr Jukes acknowledged the impact Ms Kaur’s death had had on Sikh communities across London.
Mr Jukes said: “I am here today to show the Met’s commitment to Sikh communities right across London. I understand the concern and shock many people have felt following the tragic loss of Kirandeep Kaur, and my thoughts remain with her family.
“We moved quickly to arrest and charge a suspect. While we do not believe there is any wider threat to the community, we recognise the impact this incident has had, and as a precaution, we have increased local patrols, including around gurdwaras. Our investigators are determined to find all the answers they can to the questions those affected have about what happened to Kirandeep, and why.”
The Met said the visit gave senior officers the opportunity to hear directly from community leaders and reassure them about the ongoing investigation.
Mr Jukes added: “The Met continues to work closely with Sikh communities across the capital through regular engagement and partnership meetings, ensuring concerns are heard and acted upon.”
Police said they do not believe there is any wider threat to the community but that additional patrols, including around gurdwaras, have been introduced as a precaution while detectives continue their investigation.
