Two new cost-of-living initiatives have been launched in Ealing by The Log Cabin Charity to support families in the borough experiencing financial hardship this winter.
The Northfields-based organisation is running Plates & Play, a free programme for eligible families that combines cooking sessions, shared meals and supervised play for children. Parents and carers take part in preparing a hot meal, receive practical cooking and budgeting advice, and have time to socialise while children join organised play sessions.
Sessions take place at The Log Cabin, 259 Northfield Avenue, Ealing (W5 4UA), and run for three hours on Fridays from 11:30am to 2:30pm or Sundays from 10am to 1pm. The next sessions take place on 21 and 23 November 2025, 19 and 21 December 2025, 16 and 18 January 2026, 13 and 15 February 2026, and 13 and 15 March 2026.
The charity said the scheme is aimed at Ealing families not currently receiving council-administered benefits or other cost-of-living support, including working households that may fall just above eligibility thresholds. Families can apply online at forms.office.com/e/7pgDfrnwn6
In addition, The Log Cabin has expanded its Crisis Support service, which offers free essential items to residents in urgent need. Support may include food packs, warm clothing, winter supplies, children’s items and small kitchen appliances such as air fryers or slow cookers.
The service is open to Ealing residents facing immediate hardship, such as delays in benefit payments, sudden loss of income, temporary accommodation or unsafe living conditions. Applications can be made through forms.office.com/e/YhsMivMtwC.
The Log Cabin Charity, which has supported local families for more than 40 years, is also planning a 45th Anniversary Celebration Dinner later this year to mark its long-standing work in the community.
