Businesses in Ealing and across west London should have a stronger voice in national economic policy, the West London Chamber of Commerce has told new Labour Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
The chamber, which represents businesses across Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith & Fulham, is calling for changes to how London businesses are represented nationally. Chief executive Alan Rides has also asked to meet Mr Burnham or members of his Government to discuss economic growth, international trade and investment.
At present, the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the sole London representative within the British Chambers of Commerce. West London Chamber says other chambers serving businesses across the capital are excluded from direct membership.
Writing to Mr Burnham on Tuesday (21 July 2026), West London Chamber chief executive Alan Rides said: “Chambers serving the wider capital, including West London, are excluded from membership, even though we represent substantial business communities.”
He called for “greater devolution within the Chamber movement”, saying a stronger voice for suburban chambers would ensure businesses “across the whole capital – not just those in the City – are properly represented”.
West London Chamber describes itself as the second-largest Chamber in London and said it held 95 business events last year, including 45 with an international focus, as well as welcoming overseas trade delegations.
Mr Rides also highlighted the importance of Heathrow Airport and international trade to west London businesses.
He said: “Protecting and strengthening Heathrow’s role as the UK’s premier international gateway will be essential if Britain is to remain globally competitive.”
