Ealing Project shutters after three years

In a bittersweet announcement, the Ealing Project has confirmed it will close its doors for good on 1 June 2025, marking the end of an initiative that reintroduced cinema to the heart of Ealing after a 15-year absence.

Launched in June 2022, the Ealing Project quickly became more than just a cinema – it evolved into a hub for the local community. Located in Ealing Broadway shopping centre, the venue transformed a former nightclub into a destination for film, arts, and live events in partnership with landlords British Land.

In a public statement, the Ealing Project said: “It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing our last day of trading on June 1st 2025. Everyone at the Ealing Project is gutted but determined to go out with a bang!”

In its three-year run, the venue sold over 250,000 cinema tickets, hosted more than 500 events, engaged with over 100 local community groups, and featured work from more than 50 local artists.

The Ealing Project also championed local entrepreneurs and creatives, offering space for after-school clubs, art workshops, poetry and comedy nights, and operating Mahaba Café, a social enterprise that creates employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

Despite its success, the Ealing Project acknowledged the wider struggles impacting the cinema industry.

The team said: “It is not a secret that the cinema industry has faced near insurmountable odds since the onset of Covid”.

The Ealing Project is inviting the community to celebrate one last time during the upcoming May half-term, with screenings including Lilo & Stitch, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and more planned before the final curtain call.

Until 1 June, the venue will continue to operate as normal, with its final day expected to be a celebration of everything the Ealing Project has stood for.

In their farewell, the team expressed gratitude to supporters, staff, and partners: ““We want to give a huge thanks to our visionary landlords British Land for giving us the opportunity to have made such a meaningful impact in Ealing.”

“Our incredible team of staff deserve credit for their unwavering hard work and dedication over these past three years.”

As a gesture of thanks, existing members will be offered a free five-month membership with Ealing Picturehouse, available to redeem between 2 June and 31 July 2025, and valid for 150 days from activation. Members will be contacted by email with instructions.

While its closure marks the end of a significant chapter for Ealing’s cultural scene, the team remains hopeful: “We remain positive about the future and hope that the Ealing Project will return in one form or another someday soon.”
