Acton-based Descendants, a charity for young people which explores African and Caribbean culture, is inviting residents across Ealing to its online annual general meeting on 11 November 2022 where it will be sharing details of its expansion plans.
The history and arts-focused charity is aimed at children and young people aged 4-16 to and explores African and Caribbean culture through art, craft, music, drama and dance.
In 2023, Descendants will celebrate its 30th anniversary and plans to further expand its work which includes showcasing and celebrating the achievements of young people of African and Caribbean descent.
Descendents founder Margaret Noel told EALING.NEWS: “We are really looking forward to celebrating Descendants’ achievements in 2023. We hope many past attendees, volunteers, families, friends of Descendants’ and the wider community will come together to celebrate the incredible journey that this small but important children’s charity has gone through. For the first 28 years, solely run by volunteers. We will be setting out our events at the AGM. We also have a special announcement to make at the AGM.”
As part of the expansion, Descendants is looking for additional volunteers as well as two paid members of staff, an administrator for 20 hours a week and a development worker for 15 hours a week.
Margaret also explained that volunteers are important to the group and is encouraging more men to join. “We are also looking for people to join Descendants’ management committee, in particular men, and people who have skills with finances, and PR skills.”
